Introduction

None of the traditional methods of displaying project development information are particularly well suited to use at an Oral Hearing or similar event.

Mapping can be displayed in its native AutoCAD™ (or similar) environment, but finding and opening the correct map for the situation under discussion can take time and excessive computing power, especially if orthographic photography is incorporated. Text and photos can be imported into a PowerPoint™ presentation, the standard software tool for displaying data to an audience. However, the problem of finding and displaying the correct file promptly again becomes a problem, as Powerpoint is inherently intended for use in a linear fashion, i.e. from a starting slide to an ending slide.

These problems can be worked around, to an extent, but never totally eradicated. As much map based data as possible can be crammed into the one drawing file and navigated on demand, though this is unwieldy and awkward to navigate, and even with the excessive computing power mentioned above the system is prone to instability. Also, all data is on show while the relevent area is located, even that which is not relevent, which may induce additional unnecessary questioning of witnesses.

Hyperlinks can be introduced into your PowerPoint™ presentation, to enable rudimentary navigation, but with a large volume of scheme documention, this would involve a disproportionate amount of work to produce a solution of limited utility.

A Roadshow display is susceptible to none of these problems. It packages all project documentation and mapping into a professional and integrated index of material where all figures, chapters of text, and individual maps can be easily and immediately located. There is no delay introduced by switching between applications, is less demanding on hardware than having multiple large documents open at the same time, and enhances the professional and transparent nature of the scheme’s preparation.

In addition, all navigation is done only in view of the operator, and is not visible to the Hearing audience, meaning only the information you intend to publicise is displayed.
